I Am Brewer Fan

When I was a kid I totally sucked at baseball. I don’t know what the deal was, but as a little leaguer I was hardly a superstar. It is about that point in time when you realize that you might be better suited as a fan versus a player.

Luckily, I adopted that policy at an early age, and have been a faithful Brewer and Wisconsin sports supporter ever since (That’s actually pretty funny if you’re into that). Anyway, if you’re looking for an expert in the dugout I’m not your guy. If you’re looking for a guy in the stands, I’m money. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I understand the toils of being a Brewer fan and what being an everyday average Joe in the state of Wisconsin really amounts to.
Yes, I know it’s early in the season. But, once again, I get that little gut check every time I start thinking about it. Now don’t hit me with the whole don’t give up speech either. I’ve done this for plenty of years and know all too well the outcome.

Last season was a blessing. It was gutsy calls, it was a fan base united, and it was more excitement than this Brewer fan has seen since he sat underneath the basement stairs glued to a ten inch black and white wondering (to this day) if Rollie in relief would have reaped more reward. I got to feel some of the rush again last year, but this time as an older, although not much wiser, Milwaukee Brewer fan.

I got to come home, after a long day of whatever, and kick back with the renewed fire that was the Milwaukee Brewers. Every fan got a taste of what being patient and steadfast really feels like in the end. It is a testament to our fan hood, and an affirmation that sometimes the little guy does win.

I hope we taste a little bit of that wine again this season, but if not, rest assured that Brewers fan I will remain. Perhaps it is fitting, because that is so untuckem.

Knowing what it means to fall down and get back up again, day after day, and season after season.

But doing it anyway, for the good of our own home teams.

  1. Brian Otten Said,

Where did you find that Fingers SI cover? I thought I had the only Brewer covers in a Yount/82 WS cover and the Rob Deer 1987 cover (last year’s Braun cover doesn’t count because he shared it with others). I guess I have some more hunting to do.

    Brian,

I ran across that browsing articles on Fingers. That would be a nice find either way. Thanks for stopping by… appreciate it.
